Entering the Mac World

It's official...I'm one of the cool kids now!

I took a stroll down Michigan Avenue, went into the Apple store, and am now the owner of a new Mac!

After several months of talking with the guys at work, and/or listening to the guys at work, I finally decided to get a Macbook. Every couple of days, they would drop comments about: less viruses, Macs being far superior, and how cool I'd be, etc. :) So, I finally made the decision or maybe gave into the subtle peer pressure and made the big buy!

If you've never been in the store, it's quite an experience. It's very trendy looking, and always loaded with people. The weird thing is that I've been in the Apple store several times over the last couple of years, and didn't own a single Apple product. But I loved hanging out in there and just playing with all their stuff. A friend said they've been very good at marketing the coolness factor along with kindness, and I think that's what it makes it hipper than most stores. Cool, but kind! While I was there, I talked with the sales guy about all my questions regarding computers, but also about our respective jobs, and the fun of living in the city. But what really made a lasting impression on me was that he carried my Mac and the big bulky printer outside and hailed a cab for me. Big brownie points! I know I spent a good chunk of change there, but I really wasn't expecting such great customer service.

So, now I'm in the process of signing up for these little classes they hold at the store called One to One. Basically, they teach people how to use their computers, and you go to the store once a week for these hour long classes or coaching sessions. After years of being afraid of my computer, and praying that it would actually do what I wanted it to do, I'm really looking forward to these sessions. A little computer knowledge, and the coolness factor...watch out people!
